Rewarding Recycling!

Hello Everyone!

This week for reading we had several choices and I chose to reading about the use of plastic! I read about how rubbish goes into landfill when thrown away and much more. Our create was to make a poster about the use of plastic and how we can reduce the use of plastic in our schools and communities. I hope you like my create!

Question – How do you think we can reduce the use of plastic?

Super Synthesising!!

Hello Everyone and welcome to my blog!

This week for reading, my group and I have been working on synthesising. We started off by reading a article called ‘Don’t sit if you want to keep fit’ which is about the health benifits you get from standing instead of sitting. Then, we worked on a slideshow and answered the questions on it. Finally, we got to design our own piece of furniture for school.

Question ~ Would you rather stand or sit while working?

Peaceful PBL

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are: A dove, an olive branch & the peace symbol.

These symbols represent peace because they are all symbols that represent love, freedom and unity.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because its shows how everyone needs peace in the world to make the earth a nicer place.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about St Thérèse of Lisieux I thought this person was a champion of peace because of her small acts of kindness and the amount of affection and love she put into them.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it has given me a better understanding about the importance of peace and what we can do to be a peacemaker.

I learnt that peace is a necessity in the world and without peace the earth would be an unhappy place and a unhealthy environment for us to live in.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by being kind to everyone and treating everyone with respect.

Hello and welcome to my blog!

This week for reading, we have been looking at Ngā Pakanga o Aotearoa (The New Zealand Wars) and also learning about language features. Before starting our create task, we had to read an article about the NZ wars. Our create task was to make a poster about the NZ wars and to include as many language features from the article as possible. This week I learned a lot about the different language features and how they are a really important part of your work.

I hope you like my poster!

Question ~ How many language features do you know?

Mighty Maths

Hello Everyone and welcome to my blog!

This week for maths, we have started learning about symmetry and the different types of symmetry. In one of our workshops, we learnt about rotation symmetry, reverse & inverting. Symmetry is an easy task for me to complete and isnt to difficult. This week for our create, we had to make a floor design that includes complementary colours, 6 different shapes and is must have symmetry. I hope you like my floor design!

Question ~ What is your favorite part of symmetry?

Thank you for reading my blog!

Peaceful Predictions!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!

This week for reading, we have been working on predictions and why making predictions is important! Our create task was to chose one of the texts to read and make predictions about it. I chose to read ‘By the river’ which was about a girl named Kenzie who is nervous about attending a school camp because she doesnt want to be left out by her best friend Chloe and her new friend Maddie. We had to make predictions before we read the text and write what we thought it would be about. Then, we had a chance to change our predictions while reading the text. Finally, we had to write if out predictions were correct or not.

I hope you like reading my predictions!

Question ~ Have you ever had to predict a text? Were your predictions correct?

Precious Poetry!!

19th of July 2023 ~

Hello Everyone and welcome back to my blog!

Lately at school, we have been working on poetry. We have been covering limerick poems, diamante poems, blackout poems, haiku poems and much more! Today we worked on limerick poems and learnt about their purposes and where they originated. Like the name, limerick poems originated in Limerick, Ireland. Limerick poems have five lines and the first, second and fifth lines rhyme, and the third and fourth lines also rhyme with eachother. They are short and funny poems that are simple and easy to write.

Our task was to make two of our own limerick poems, these are the ones I made up myself!

20th Of  July 2023 ~

Today, we worked on ‘Bio Poems.’ Biography poems are either about youself or someone else. They have 11 lines, and each line includes something about the person you are writing about. Our task was to make one about yourself and one about someone else in the class. I wrote mine about Vili;

First Name: Vilimaina

Words that describe the person: Sporty, Fast, Fijian, Good at netball.

Something they enjoy: Atheletics, Netball

Things they love: Food, Eating and Atheletics

Things they fear: Death, Working at McDonalds

Something they wonder: What happens after death?

Something they wish for: Money

Something they dream of: Kim Kardashian’s birthday party.

Something they feel: Confusion, Neutral.

Something they plan to do: Finishing her lunch.

Last name: Qoroya.

27th of July 2023 ~

Today we made two of our own list poems! A list poem is when you have a topic and write it in a list and turn it into a poem! I chose my two topics to be fruits and spring. I had a lot of fun writing these poems even though they it was a bit hard at first. I hope you like my poems!

Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you learnt something new about poetry!

Question ~ What is your favourite type of poetry?

Splendid Science!!

In Science we have been learning about electricity. We have all been taking science lessons once a week and have been working on some experiments! One of the experiments we did was: Squishy Circuts.

The materials we used for this experiment were:

  • Playdough
  • Clay
  • Wires
  • Battery

Before conducting my experiment I thought that this wouldn’t work because we though the chances of playdough and clay making a light glow, were almost imposible. After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because it auctually did work! We dont really know how it worked but somehow it did.

Something I found challenging was when we had to move the wires several times before the light would glow. We didn’t think it would make a difference if we placed the wires wherever we wanted, but some reason it did.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that the lights need to be placed in certain positions to work.

Have you ever done a science experiment before? Did it work or did it not?

Thank you for reading my blog!

Marvelous Maths!!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!

This weeks create is similar to last weeks create. Our task this week was to spin a wheel 90 times with 5 different breakfast options. My options were: Porridge, hotcakes, hot chocolate, sausage sizzle, toast and cereal. We had to tally down our information and make it into a graph. My final statements were that hot chocolate was the most popular option and each option had a 1/6 chance of getting picked. I hope you like my work!

Question: What option would you pick?

Magnificent Maths!

Kia Ora Everyone and welcome to my blog!

This week for maths, we have been learning about probability and we have lately been making tree diagrams to show our work. This week our create task was based of a real event happening next week… the mid winter breakfast. Our task was to make a tree diagram on all the different options for hot cakes, hot chocolate, sausage sizzle and porridge. It may not make sense when I write it, but it will when you see my create. Anyways, I hope you like my create!

Question ~ What is your favourite option on this list?
